The 17 Sustainable Development Goals
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals outline a holistic and universal understanding of sustainability. Holistic in that the SDGs encompass environmental, social and economic concerns that are interconnected and interrelated. Universal in that the SDGs target all countries as well as governments, municipalities, businesses, organisations and individuals. Today, the SDGs have become a common language for sustainability across sectors and actors.
The SDGs also offer a tool that can be used to reduce an organisation's negative footprint and increase its positive impact on the environment and society. Since the birth of the SDGs in 2015, NORION has worked extensively with the SDGs as a concrete and visionary tool in both private companies and public organisations.
What can we do?
NORION has developed and quality tested a process and a tool to help companies and organisations work strategically with the SDGs. The first step in the process is to develop an overall vision for working with sustainability. Next, the company's impact on the 17 SDGs and the 169 targets is mapped out via an interactive and co-creative process. This mapping results in input on which focus areas to prioritise. Once the focus areas have been selected, an action plan is drawn up with KPIs, goals and activities to ensure that the vision is achieved. The process can be completed with the development of a communication plan that ensures that the organisation communicates their work with the SDGs in a credible and appealing way.
NORION always adapts the process to and in collaboration with the respective organisation. It can often be relevant to work with the organisational conditions to ensure that culture, systems and competencies support the work with the SDGs.

What have we done?
At Norion, we have pressure-tested our SDG process on several companies and organisations with a positive response. The companies feel that the SDG programme helps them focus and measure the development of their work towards a more sustainable business model. Among other things, we have:

Helped Man Energy Solutions Frederikshavn branch to develop an SDG strategy

Facilitated a process at MBH International to prioritise focus areas using the SDGs

Supported a pearl supplier in formulating requirements for pearl farms based on SDG 14 and its related targets.

Translated Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for road construction to the SDGs and developed a tool for this (Danish Road Directorate).

Assisted procurement organisations in public green procurement with the SDGs as leverage (as part of the Green Procurement Travel Team, Danish EPA)

NORION contributes to analyses and knowledge in the project 'SDGs in the Value Chain', which develops and tests solutions to the sustainability challenges facing the restaurant industry (Global Compact Network Denmark, Danmarks Restauranter og Cafeer and Restauratørernes Garantiordning, financed by Industriens Fond).
