Webinar: Exploring Nordic Rewetting Efforts

Discover the findings from the soon-to-be published report “Exploring Rewetting Efforts in the Nordic Countries”, and gain insights into how Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden have implemented wetland restoration policies and the objectives. In this webinar we explore the different approaches to rewetting and learn which policy instruments are being used and experiences from each country.
For decades, peatlands across the Nordic region have been drained for agriculture, forestry, and other land uses. This has turned these vital ecosystems from carbon sinks into significant carbon emitters, while also degrading biodiversity and water management capacity.
Recently, efforts to rewet these areas have gained momentum, not only to restore biodiversity but also to mitigate climate change by reducing emissions. The report “Exploring Rewetting Efforts in the Nordic Countries” dives into the policy tools used to implement rewetting initiatives, what the main objectives are and how economic incentives will play a vital role in future land use change.
