Case studies
Case studies are a powerful tool for understanding challenges and phenomena. They allow for an in-depth exploration of specific issues and provide insight into how solutions work in practice. Case studies can focus on anything from individual businesses and sectors to value chains and geographic areas, such as tourism destinations.
Our case studies are not just analyses—they are tools for strategic development and decision-making. What makes our work unique is the combination of methodological rigour, a practice-oriented approach, and strong communication.
What is the process?
Our approach encompasses multiple dimensions. We gather data through methods such as fieldwork, in-depth interviews, workshops, surveys, and field observations to gain a detailed understanding of the context. We then move into analysis and synthesis, combining qualitative and quantitative data to uncover both unique insights and broader trends. The results are presented with a strong emphasis on visualisation and impactful communication – we deliver audience-tailored formats such as reports, presentations, and illustrative graphics or infographics, making complex insights easy to understand and action-oriented.

We offer two primary approaches
At Norion, we combine qualitative methods with relevant quantitative data to deliver holistic analyses that generate insight and value. We tailor our approach to each assignment, ensuring our work is both methodologically robust and practically applicable.
Best practice cases
With best practice cases, we focus on identifying and sharing concrete success stories that can inspire and provide valuable examples of effective solutions.
Multiple case studies
Multiple case studies allow for the analysis of trends and challenges across several actors or contexts, providing a broader perspective and supporting the development of cross-cutting solutions.
What are case studies?
Case studies provide deep insight into challenges and opportunities, particularly in relation to the implementation of sustainability initiatives. They are especially valuable for:
- Documenting effects through qualitative and quantitative analysis, highlighting how political or strategic decisions have impacted a target group, sector, or area
- Clarifying whether an initiative has been implemented as intended, and identifying barriers or success factors
- Highlighting what has worked well and what could be improved in future efforts
- Communicating knowledge that is in-depth, concrete, inspiring, and practically applicable
Case studies are relevant for both public and private actors who wish to make informed decisions based on solid evidence.
We have conducted case studies in collaboration with:
- The European Commission: Analysis of transnational initiatives
- The Nordic Council of Ministers: Exploring regional trends
- National authorities and municipalities: Evaluation of political initiatives and local efforts
- Private companies: Identifying success factors and challenges in a business context, and investigating how a solution or product can be made relevant to the target audience
